Audio (and Material) Capture
Fall 2006

Created 4 November 2006

This document is created to track investigations and possible solutions for capturing audio and possibly presentation materials in the classrooms.

What do we mean by capturing audio and presentation materials?

There has been rising interest in recording course lectures and other presentations taking place in the classroom. At this time, we are primarily interested in capturing the audio to go with the presentation materials, for example, the professor's voice during a class, for review by students later. It may also be of interest to capture the presentation materials at the same time, so that the capture contains the audio in synch with the presentation materials.

What started this?

Professors Robert Park and Peter Douglas, Associate Deans of Computing for Arts and Engineering, respectively, have been providing podcasts of their lectures for a couple terms. There is interest for investigating iTunes U. There is interest in web conferencing systems (Horizon Wimba Live Classroom, ePresence, as examples).
