The IST Security Advancement Group (ISAG) is a small group of IST staff members who are tasked to advance computer and network security within IST and UW. This is a group formed in 2005 and modelled after IWAG (the successful IST Windows Advancement Group).
ISAG is an opportunity for IST staff to coordinate their work on computer and network security -- this is an important area where a coordinated effort will help IST. Coordination with other Campus Computing Committees will help to advance UW.
We believe that our work advancing computer and network security is time well spent.
We believe in sharing what we know, learning from one another and building a consensus.
We believe that functionality, convenience and ease of use should be balanced against risks assumed.
While ISAG is an opportunity to coordinate efforts and discuss priorities it is not responsible for allocating resources or setting priorities -- individual group managers and IST Management are responsible for that.
ISAG can and should make recommendations including directions, the allocation of resources and the setting of priorities for security issues. IST Management is keen to entertain recommendations brought to them.
ISAG will have regular meetings for one hour every two weeks with a posted agenda and archived minutes. Meetings are open to all within IST who are interested and anyone may suggest agenda items for the group to consider.
The persons who chair the meetings and record minutes will be elected by the group and rotated on at least a yearly basis. Minutes taken will be accurate and timely.
Membership includes a core group who attend and participate in regularly scheduled meetings. The mailing list includes IST staff outside the core group who want to be kept advised and who attend meetings as required. Public minutes are posted so that anyone may comment on our work.
