November 26, 2007 - UW's external network was down from 9:45pm Nov 24 to 3:00am Nov 25, reportedly due to scheduled maintenance. UW wasn't advised of the scheduled downtime.

November 8, 2007 - The IST web site will be unavailable on Wed. Nov.14 from 6:30am until about 8:30am due to a server upgrade.

October 16, 2007 3:05pm - Full internet access restored as of approx. 2pm. The link appears to be stable. A change of the interface and line card in the Orion network connecting to Cogent provided the solution.
October 16, 2007 12:05pm - Our providers are still working on the cause of our interruption. Reported that multiple locations affected. At last report, some locations indicating connections restored. Still no ETA for our location.

August 1, 2007 - planned external network outage (CANCELLED). On August 2 Orion will be doing some network configuration changes, which will result in a 1.5-2 hours loss, during a 4-hour window beginning at 18:00, of all external network services.

Thankfully, our external link seems to back up and running. No details of why or how at this point.

Current indication from Orion is that the cause of the outage is a Bell fiber-optic cable cut 'somewhere in Waterloo'. Orion expects the problem to be fixed sometime this weekend.
Also directly affected are Wilfrid Laurier University and Conestoga College. University of Guelph is indirectly affected due to our shared library systems.

There is a problem with both the ORION and the Cogent links between the campus network and the Internet. The cause is under investigation.
