WatIAM discussion

A great deal of discussion resulted in CSAG trying to understand how WatIAM is classifying people. Specifically the expiry date was a cause of concern since it did not specify when people leave rather it only tells us that the account will expire out of WatIAM. It was suggested that a termination time (for lack of a better descriptive heading) be included with a built in grace period of a year for Faculty, Staff, Sessionals. The expiry date for students is slightly more accurate but again lacks details that would help with managing the transitions (expected graduation, withdrawls etc.).

Solaris and Oracle

We discussed the implications of Oracle purchase of SUN and how it affects us. Acquiring maintenance for Solaris software and hardware is a priority for over the summer. Sandra Laughlin is our local contact person, she will contact Oracle.

End of life discussion

  • Putting the hardware behind VPNs is considered the solution for hardware or software that has reached its end of life but is still required.

Merging Active Directories

Briefly we discussed how the Active Directory merger would affect us, simple things like naming conventions to more complex questions such as when the project would be completed (and who is working on it).
